Mission/Vision

The Minding Your Mind Foundation leads initiatives that reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues among adolescents in middle school, high school and college. Our outreach programs enlighten students, families and educators about the warning signs of mental health issues that are so often masked by adolescent behavior. By promoting open dialogue at school and at home, these programs encourage young adults and families to seek the appropriate help.

Minding Your Mind’s primary objective is to improve the lives of adolescents with mental health issues by eliminating the negative attitudes and behaviors perpetuated by stigma of mental health problems. To this end, Minding Your Mind provides direct support and technical assistance to initiatives that advance public awareness, encourage treatment and promote recovery of mental health issues. Our priorities are in the following three areas:

  • Exemplary youth and family-focused public education initiatives
  • Promising research on early detection and prevention of mental health disorders
  • Collaborative programming strategies among mental health organizations

By promoting mental health awareness and acceptance, Minding Your Mind strives to achieve these long-term goals:

  • A comprehensive and peer-based national mental health awareness and prevention program implemented in all educational institutions.
  • An overall reduction in the stigma associated with mental health issues and more severe mental illnesses.
  • A shift to a positive attitude in mental health education to increase intervention and treatment.
  • Preparing young adults to recognize mental health issues and seek help after their secondary education and during high-risk college years.
  • Exponentially increasing the long-term funding that supports research related to the identification and treatment of mental health disorders.
