Why We Are Unique

The Minding Your Mind Foundation was created to raise awareness and reduce the debilitating stigma associated with mental health disorders. We differentiate ourselves by the philosophy that collaboration is key to substantially reducing stigma associated with mental health and increasing prevention for youth at risk. Rather than “recreate the wheel,“ Minding Your Mind identifies exemplary organizations who share our mission. This approach enables us, and our partners, to leverage our respective strengths and avoid duplicative efforts. The process of identifying partners requires a complex review of the prospective organizations' mission, objectives, programs and leadership.

To date, we have developed relationships with:

  • a national middle and high school campaign to reduce stigma and increase help-seeking behavior;
  • a Penn research department focusing on identifying evidence regarding the specific DNA variants that increase the risk of developing bipolar and other chronic mental health disorders;
  • two on-campus peer outreach programs;
  • a college suicide prevention program which collaborates with university administrators; and
  • an international program that fosters independence among individuals living with mental health disorders.

Together, our organizations create a comprehensive, proactive approach to preventing, identifying, and treating mental health disorders with support, compassion, and the hope of recovery.
